HANDISCOPE ... well the sky for everyone !

INPI Patent N° 0806335

The Handiscope an astronomical telescope is autonomous and mobile,

for people with any type of disability or disabling disease.

Image E. Mallart / Axis Instruments

Currently, the market for astronomical instrumentation for amateurs, no telescope or spotting scope is in the state,

directly conducive to observing the sky for physical disability.

With Handiscope, this will finally change by offering people with disabilities the same opportunities and the same quality of observation that "valid".

This instrument serves as an example the one hand, because of its uniqueness and its mission to create the link between astronomers and without disabilities,

and secondly, on the scientific aspect of this activity, which tends to value the person with disabilities.

This action is indeed transferable to other sectors, such as the frail elderly, inpatient rooms, heavily fitted or bedridden.

It can also be for children with debilitating orphan diseases: Child of the Moon, Mucoviscidose.

The objectives of the Handiscope are :

     * To observe the sky directly and not via the virtual tool,

     * To keep the visual axis of the instrument at the same height as the eye of the observer, regardless of the object pointed to,

     * To provide a primary optical foolproof,

     * To make the disabled person self for mounting the instrument and its use,

     * To promote the mobility of the individual through a portable equipment,

     * And be available for purchase individually or collectively.

Image E. Mallart / Axis Instruments

Since 2008, date of creation of the first prototype of Handiscope, the instrument has been tested regularly with people with disabilities,

as part of entertainment and business meetings.

This notion of "feedback" in developing such an instrument is crucial.

First, because the designer is a valid person and secondly, because the Handiscope not intended to be an instrument to freeze technologically.

Indeed, according to the people and disabilities encountered, it will be equipped with on-demand options.

This involvement of future users, has to adapt or even to readjust all the specificities of this instrument:

usability, manageability, accessibility, comfort and quality of observation, user satisfaction, not to mention aesthetics.

After a long
process of design and testing that lasted nearly five years, the proposed provision of Handiscope happen.

The association "Stars for All" and can now offer this tool for astronomical animations adapted.

But also, let for hire or sale to associations wishing to conduct similar activities in this area of science.

The Handiscope enjoys a technological evolutionary potential (options), enabling him to look elsewhere for more users.

For example, a reference optical system to make the beauties of the night sky, to bedridden children during hospitalization ...
