BL Lacertae or BL Lac is an active galaxy (AGN) to very fast changes.
Discovered by Cuno Hoffmeister in 1929 [1], it was first taken to an irregular variable star in the Milky Way,
and received a variable name: BL Lacertae. In 1968 John Smith at the David Dunlap Observatory observed
it as a radio source, and a galaxy very pale around him [2]. In 1974, Oke and Gunn have measured its redshift
z = 0.07, or 21 000 km / s relative to our galaxy [3]. Which would place him at a distance of about 900 million light years.
It is the object that gives its name to a type of blazar: BL Lacertae objects, or BL Lac objects. This class is
distinguished by the shift of the absorption lines characteristic of a quasar. BL Lacertae has sometimes weak emission lines.
Its apparent magnitude varies between 14 and 17 for short periods.
